Ilana, you go girl. Don't you listen to that snooty Shoshanah bragging her egg is bigger. Keep up the good work.

Not to worry, Tricia. Ilana has been told 2 days in a row now how absolutely fabulous she is as I pluck her beautiful egg out of the nest. She knows how wondrous her eggs are because she puffs out her chest and tells me all about it. I think Shoshanah must have egg envy because she hasn't laid an egg in the last 2 days. At least not so far, though I believe I hear a familiar egg announcement right now. I better go check the nest.

HEHEHE I just bet the other chickens are telling the neighborhood what a egg-ample Ilana is...

I just read that you are into Genealogy. Welcome to they hobby that takes hold of you and will never EVER let you escape. I have been doing Genealogy for almost 40 years and still love it. If you need any help let me know.

I am an old genealogist, a Wishful gardener (we have a house in North Florida which is where we will retire to... some day but I have my gardens all planned out with sketches and pictures of flowers and veggies. My brother who is a plumber will be installing a drip and Micro-spray watering system this fall Yipeee. Gonna have it on timers so I can at least plant some FLOWERS. I plan on also have chickens so I pretty much ready everything I can on raising them.
So keep the news coming about your chickens. My niece has city chickens and none have gone broody on her but she had to buy peepers for them because they turned into bullies and pecked poor Lilla all bloody. (by the way Lilla was named after my mother so I would have thought she would be beating up the other chickens) LOL

About Me

My Photo
I'm an almost 50-year-old woman trying to create a more sustainable lifestyle for my family on our less than 1/5th acre urban homestead in south Florida. You're welcome to follow our journey as we attempt to grow as much of our own organic produce as our little yard can take, raise backyard chickens for eggs, compost, and amusement, try to reduce our carbon footprint, learn to preserve food by canning, freezing, and dehydrating, and hopefully turn our little urban homestead into a profitable venture.

About This Blog

My Edible Yard was created in an effort to spur myself on while publicly journaling my trials, errors, and successes in the creation of our urban homestead. The key word here is publicly as I am famous for zealously starting projects and then abandoning them. In making my south Florida urban homesteading experience public, I hope to force myself to continue on with the project and actually create a more sustainable life for my husband and me. So please send kind words of encouragement, gardening and cooking tips to keep me going. They are all much appreciated.
