The Incredible Edible Egg

Avigal's Super-Sized Egg

I kid you not, this is the egg delivered by Avigal, one of our Buff Orpington hens, yesterday. Mickey got so excited when he got home from work yesterday that he measured it—2.75 inches long and 6 inches around. I'm sure it's just a normal anomaly. I certainly hope it is for Avigal's sake.

Oh my goodness. That is like a woman giving birth to a 12 lb baby YIKES.

Granted, I'm new to raising chickens, but it floored me, Tricia. I have since discovered in the Yahoo chicken group I belong to that for Buff Orpingtons it doesn't seem to be a big deal. A woman wrote in and said her Orps regularly lay 3-inch long eggs.
